Politic and government

The Municipality of Unión de Reyes has a territorial extension of 855.88Km2 and a population of 37,042 inhabitants, it limits to the North with the municipality of Limonar, to the South with the municipality of Ciénaga de Zapata and to the east with the municipality of Pedro Betancourt and Jagüey Grande, V largest Municipality in the Province, its main economic line is Agropecuaria y los Servicios.
The Municipal Assembly of People's Power is made up of 64 delegates, of them women 28 for 44%, blacks and mestizos 18 for 28%, whites 43 for 67.1. The school level behaves as follows: basic average 8 for 11.4%, upper average 30 for 51.4% and higher 26 for 37.1%, with an average age of 44 years.
We have 6 Popular Councils, Union of Kings with 12 Circumscriptions in the Municipal capital, Heads with 7 circumscriptions, Bermejas with 4 circumscriptions, Juan G. Gómez with 7 circumscriptions, Alacranes with 4 circumscriptions, Cidra with 6 circumscriptions, their main mission being control and supervision of the entities located in its demarcation and join efforts in the search and solution of the problems of the community, achieving Popular participation.
Outside of Popular Councils we have 22 Circumscriptions in various rural settlements.
Of the 64 delegates, 62 make up the six permanent commissions of the Municipal Assembly, except for the President and Vice President of the Assembly, the commissions are as follows:

 Health, Community Services and Environment Commission.
 Commission of Local Bodies and Socialist Legality
 Permanent Commission for Productive Activities.
 Permanent Commission for Economic Affairs.
 Permanent Commission for Attention to Services.
 Permanent Commission for Education, Culture, Sports and Recreation.

The Directorate of the Municipal Assembly meets quarterly with the addresses of these commissions in order to indicate the work priorities and strategy to be followed, thus encouraging them to meet periodically to organize and evaluate the work and that each of the topics examined in the assemblies are presented by said commissions.
